Makerere Demolition begins

The long awaited battle between the Makerere University Administration and private businesses who have been illegally providing their services such as affordable food and printing to students on Makerere land is finally underway. The university in a bid to extinct all private enterprises out of its premises in order to retain a monopoly and liberty to price its very own students is embarking on a mission to demolish and destroy any business opportunities for outsiders. The campus.hot256 media group is reporting live from the scene. Running battles between the illegal residents and unidentified personnel wielding Pangas, batons, sticks, hoes and spades are being used to evict the resident of these illegal structures pictures below. Matooke plantations have been cut down, wooden structures broken down much to the despair of the illegal resident, one wonders where they shall sleep tonight.

The administrative directive to down cut down all canteens is being implemented as we speak. “We are ready to break down all illegal infrastructure some of which includes, restaurants , residences, part of the police station quarters and shops among others” an insider in Makerere administration who did not want to be named informed us. We’ve been also informed that the university’s time for negotiation is up, and police along with rumored whispers of employed Katanga thugs and Kifeesi panga wielding goons have been assigned to complete the mission. There is also talk in the vicinity that the illegal structures will be replaced by well-built structures for University residents, especially University Lecturers whose staff quarters are in serious need of rehabilitation. The directive for all illegal residents to vacate has been issued for a long time with various warning coming from the university administration for the past two years, this is not the first time the residents are being evicted the same thing happened before the start of the first semester of 2016-2017 academic year, but the residents swiftly came back early last year after a number of pleas from the university Guild to allow private business deliver their services for some time. It should be noted that students have lodged a number of complaints and demonstrated against the universities capacity to cook good food which they claim is poorly prepared at various halls of residence.
