Mariam Icuret MUST second Female Guild President

Mbarara University of Science and technology made history in the recently concluded guild elections after electing its second female guild president in the history of the university since it’s inception in 1989.

The elections attracted five contestants who included John Jonnes Bwengye, Mariam Arikosi Iculet, Mutungisa Edgar, Ruhinda Wilson and Isiko Mande.

The competition was stiff between ANT flagbearer Mariam Arikosi Iculet and NUP’s John Jonnes Bwengye. In the end Ms Arikosi of ANT edged her closest competitor after she garnered 708 votes compared to NUP’s John Jonnes Bwengye’s 559.

The rest of the votes were shared between Mutungisa who got 470, Isiko 425 and Ruhinda 125. Ms Arikosi who is a third year student from the faculty of Interdisciplinary studies is pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree of science in Gender and Applied Women Health.

Miss Iculet who becomes the second female guild president in the university”s records was congratulated by Sheila Nduhukire the popular NBS news anchor who happened to be the first female guild president of MUST in 2013.

We can only hope that the newly elected female guild president follows in the footsteps of her female predecessor Sheila and becomes one of the most influential and formidable young figures not only at her university but the country at large.
