Student without MAK emails will not be allowed to vote-Dean of Students

Following the suspension of physical campaigns and elections in the upcoming guild elections at Makerere University, the university has come up with more strict measures for the virtual elections. Winfred Kabumbuli the Acting Dean of students revealed that students without the official university email addresses will not be permitted to access the electronic voting system intended for the elections.

Although she did not reveal when the elections are to take place despite the mounting pressure from the students to the university authorities to release a road map, she said that the email addresses will be used for more activities such as the Makerere University E-learning (MUELE) and other ICT services at the school campus such as wireless internet.

Kabumbuli went ahead to advise students on how to generate their own personal email addresses in a statement.

‘You are all encouraged to login into https://sso.mak.ac.ug/ to generate your Makerere University email address. Without this official University email address, it will not be possible to access the electronic voting system that will be used for the forthcoming student elections.”

The statement went ahead to read that ‘All college domain based email addresses will be discontinued in the near future and are not eligible for electronic voting. Continuing students with the above emails are advised to activate new Webmail accounts (@students mak.ac.ug) through https://sso.mak.ac.ug/ to avoid inconveniences’.

Th process of generating these new university emails is on going and is expected to end on 23rd Friday April according to Kabumbuli and therefore students should complete activating their emails before time catches up with them.
