Makerere University has been ranked the best university in East Africa and 16th best in Africa according to the latest rankings.
These were mid year rankings for the year 2021 carried out by QS World University Rankings.
The Ivory tower also came ahead of regional rivals in academic excellence University of Nairobi which was in the 21st position.
Mbarara University of Science and Technology which had earlier received a certificate of excellence in academics was not included in these rankings.
QS World University Rankings based this list on things like Academic Reputation (40%), Employer Reputation(10%), Faculty-Student Ratio(20%), Citations per faculty(20%), International Faculty Ratio (5%) and finally International Student Ratio(5%).
These rankings are widely respected globally due to the fact that QS World university rankings have the approval of the International Ranking Expert Group (IREG). It’s one of the three widely accredited university rankings in the whole world
