Former Makerere University Business School student Vanessa Nakate has today 25th June 2021 won the Elisabeth Haub award for environmental law and diplomacy.

The Elisabeth Haub school of law is a branch found at the Pace University in New York. It seeks to award those that have excelled in climate and environmental activism.

Nakate graduated from Nakawa based MUBS with a business administration in marketing degree.

She started her activism on climate change in 2018 after becoming concerned on the unusual high temperatures in Uganda.

Nakate has gone on to win a number of awards such as being named by BBC’s 100 women and Time 100 Next by the Times magazine.

She took to her social media pages to celebrate this award but said the work was far from over.

She said efforts had to be combined to stop the fossil fuel projects.

A few weeks ago Nakate came out to oppose the proposed government oil production.

She said this would greatly endanger mother nature especially water bodies.

She walked with a slogan “we can’t drink oil and we can’t eat coal.”

She went ahead to rally schools to strike inorder to stop the East African crude oil pipeline.
