Ndejje University and Makerere University Impress at the ICPAU 2021 Financial Reporting Awards

The Institute of Certified Public Accountants (ICPAU) together with Uganda Securities Exchange (USE) and Capital Markets Authority (CMA) earlier this week held the 11th Financial Reporting (FiRe) Awards at Skyz Hotel in Naguru and virtually via zoom.

These awards having kicked off in November 2011 have over the years attracted participation of small, medium and large organizations.

Some of these corporations include NSSF, Dfcu Bank, Stanbic Holding Limited, UDB, Wazalendo, ERA amongst others.

Ndejje University was announced winner of the Education Institution Award beating off competition from other Institutions in the 2021 awards

On the other hand Makerere University Retirement Benefits Scheme won the Retirement Benefit Services Award for this year in the awards.

The other giant winners included NSSF (gold award), Centenary Rural Development Bank (Silver award) and Stanbic Holdings Limited ,(bronze award).

The main purpose of these awards is to enhance quality financial and business reporting in order to promote business growth in Uganda.

This is through encouragement of financial reporting standards plus other healthy practices in financial reporting.

ICPAU president Othieno Mayende congratulated all the participants and the winners in the same vein.

He further urged CPAs to uphold professional ethics as he said that this is the biggest pillar of the profession.

“My message to CPAs on this special day is to uphold professional ethics. Ethics is the cornerstone of accountancy profession and we speak about professional ethics over and over again, for emphasis. A nation is only as strong as the integrity of its people. And theft and the misuse of public resources are the reason that many nations lag behind. Therefore, we must guard ourselves against these vices by upholding the values of professionalism,” Mayende noted.
