]]>The self proclaimed revolutionary son picked nomination forms to contest for the Makerere Guild Elections which are taking pace this Friday April 7th 2017, but he was unfortunately scrapped off the list of approved candidates due to his bad criminal records with Uganda Police for participating and spearheading a number of strikes in Makerere University.
He is set to make an official statement and declaration tomorrow on Monday 3rd April about his candidature in the Makerere Guild Election 2017 or his possible attempt to support another candidate in the current Makerere Guild Race.
Here is what Wanyera Simon has posted in a number of social Media forums in Makerere
An injustice ceases to be one when those perpetuating it are the very ones you once considered family. It now becomes betrayal, leaving me in a state of melancholy. My subscription to FDC at national level should never be questioned or subjected to debate, but the intrigue in the FDC-Makerere University chapter cannot go unmentioned.
I did not participate in the FDC guild president primaries because subjectivity, malice, bias, and personal interests cannot be the basis and benchmark of such a sensitive process, that would be going against my core values and beliefs in the rule of law and democracy.
Mine has been a dream from day one, a dream that I share with you all ordinary Makerereans, of seeing a better Makerere University. My candidature is your candidature, your dream is my dream, your vision is my vision, and your agenda is my agenda. But most importantly-My Victory is your Victory.
My candidature has been frustrated from all angles and beyond reasonable doubt. But forget not, you cannot fight an idea whose time has come. For me to run for guild presidency has never been for my own selfish interests, but rather to represent students’ interests. The guild president is only the face of the struggle. If my candidature has been frustrated, I assure you my entire fellow Makerereans Society has never been devoid of capable leaders to carry on the mantle.
On Monday (3rd/April/2017), out of the many, we believe will keep the dream of seeing a better Makerere University alive. To team Wanyera, to team hope, to all those who believe in the struggle, I say thank you all for the support.
Come Monday, we shall have a stand-One that will make Makerere University a better place.

The Revolutionary Son.

]]>Back home, we have our own fair share of challenges as it is now a common phrase that the best candidates do not necessarily win the election, simply because they maybe don’t do the right course or sleep in the right hall. So the landscape has now shifted from convincing the electorate with the best ideology or manifesto to just making sure you have enough loud boys, coming from a college or hall with numbers and you will become the next guild president.
The solution to such a conundrum would be instituting an electoral system kind of vote. In this system constituent schools are weighted according to the composition and contribution to the general population of the University. For example a win at CHUSS can be rated at 20points, 1st runner up at 15points and so on. Equally a win at CoNAS which has a lower population can be rated at 18points and so on. So the candidate in short has to campaign and spread his message to all schools and not concentrate on winning at one college with bigger numbers. This will help us get rid of the tyranny of the majority, increase participation in the electoral process, which will increase accountability of the guild to the students. Because everyone will have taken part equally, one the students take part in the process, then they can hold their leaders accountable.
It is important that we understand that such a college vote won’t be decided by delegates, but rather everyone will vote, only that such votes will be weighted according to set criteria to arrive at the final ratings. The notion of simple majority simply waters down the system and process. Some may dismiss this as a rather complex system, but we have to remember that we don’t have to completely understand a system to it to yield results.
We must always remember that we owe it to society to come up with practical solutions to our problems, in the age where democracy is under attack, refining it is a step we can’t afford to miss.

]]>The fracas begun when the Lumumba Guard Brigade checkpoint which was controlling rowdy supporters who were violating rally rules was interrupted by police who arrested a one Emmanuel who was part of the Brigade. The GGB couldn’t let him spend even five seconds within police custody. After rescuing him, the GGB regrouped with a much bigger force pouring in, in high gear to order all the policemen on the hall premises to leave in a bid to protect their own. The rally came to a standstill as a scuffle between the GGB, some hall residents and the policemen intensified. When the students out powered the police officers, live bullets were shot in the air to restore calm.
In the end calm was restored with the distortion ending after about 30 minutes after reinforcement from anti riot police. The rally continued peacefully and has ended successfully with chants of “we have won”. The Campustrendz team is on ground and will keep you informed.

]]>The post The list of Nominated Makerere Guild Candidates 2017 Is out check out the candidates who have been approved and those who haven’t appeared first on campustrendz.
]]>The nominated candidates who will officially appear on the ballot paper include
Agadi Lucian Twongyeirwe
Isabirye Keneth
Kato Paul
Kizito Emmanuel Luwukya
Mpabaisi Alituha Doreen
Nampande Ruth Nsubuga
Sentale Andrew
The candidates who are on the pending list are five candidates who appear to have missing marks and have been advised by the electoral commission to resolve their issues with the Academic Registrar. If their issues are worked upon by the Academic registrar there will be a total of 12 candidates and will definitely be allowed back in the race as soon as they are verified according to the Electoral Commission Chairman Otuku Isaac whom we spoke to on the phone.
The students on the pending list include:
Bukomeko Stephen
Kazungu James
Kihika Henry
Lakisa Mercy Faith
Ziritwawula Abdu Karim
The students on the list of no substantial qualifications have not satisfied the requirements to be Guild president Contestants for the 83rd Guild elections that means either they have a retake or have applied for a dead year. But it should be noted that these students have the right to appeal. The previous years before the former Guild President of the 2015 81st Guild Mr. David Bala Bwiruka had also been disqualified from the race before winning a court battle with the university and being reinstated to later on win the race. 2014 Guild president of the 80th Guild Mr. Bwoye Ivan was also disqualified and later was reinstated to win the election. So with the number of missing marks cases in Makerere it is possible that some of these candidates will be reinstated.
The candidates on the third list include:
Eyen Bonny
Karamagi William
Ongom Isaac Innocent
Sambwa Timothy
Wanyera Simon

GK SAMBWA: OFFICIAL STATEMENT
Friends, Sambwaholics, fellow Makerereans; it’s sad that the Electoral Commission failed to duly nominate me basing on reasons that I entirely blame on Makerere’s online system. I scored 71 in Social Research but they indicate that “I have to retake the paper” secondly I didn’t register and sit for Family Law I but the system still reflects that I have a retake. These are all mistakes and utter recklessness of our system. I am in touch with my school Registrar and I have appealed to the Academic Registrar. Keep hopeful that they are rectifying all this and shall announce our candidature soon.

A New Leader A New Beginning
WANYERA SIMON
My fellow Makerereans,
The electoral commission requested that I prove and meet all qualifications as per the guild constitution to contest for guild presidency-I did.
I submitted all the necessary documents.
Comrades, tomorrow (22nd/March/2017) all our hope lies in the recently sworn in electoral commission to confirm me as a fully nominated guild president candidate.
They have had enough time to cross check my documents with the relevant offices.
Failure to nominate me will prompt me to ask further questions. When I call upon you then for this noble cause, please respond immediately and in numbers because my plight is your plight
I am for you all-My victory, is your victory.
