An Alumnus of King’s College Buddo,Uganda Martyrs Namugongo and St.Mary’s Kitende, and a 3rd year student at the School of Law, SAMBWA comes off as a man illumined by the light of exposure and a rich history of interactions with all and sundry in society.He is not bound by the skirmishes of class or the dirty lenses of tribe,he is a man that can be trusted with the task to unite the diverse populace in this great Ivory Tower and bring out the best in us.
SAMBWA is often misunderstood because of his choice not to contest for any political positions since his First year in 2014 but one needs to appreciate that he has taken the background to acquaint himself with the corners of Makerere. He recognises that the biggest impediment to visionary leadership in our great University has and still remains misguided ambition.G.K as he is fondly called has tamed his ambition to submit to prudence and wisdom.SAMBWA therefore finds himself in the enviable position of being the most prepared candidate for what may prove to be the race of his life.
SAMBWA is not only a leader,he is a team-player.His work in the UYD is testament of that fact.His loyalty to the UYD is not coincidental,its an open secret that his University days have been dedicated to playing on the UYD team.He was a vital cog in the famous Stella Namulindwa campaign,a mouthwatering prospect that was to open the eyes of the UYD to the prowess that he possesses.Sambwa’s clandestine contribution to the cause of the UYD as an Executive Member on the two previous cabinets and the present one has placed him in the limelight and places him in pole position for the UYD flag.He is a man of the people and derives his legitimacy from the masses as seen from his circumference of influence which stretches from his backyard at the School of Law to the farther ends of Galloway. He therefore presents himself as the best candidate for Guild President and it is believed and on good ground too,that the UYD Delegates will not throw this kind of clout to the mud,they will use it to ensure UYD backs another victory in the Guild Presidential race.
There is perhaps no quality more envied in any political campaign than good oratory. SAMBWA is your candidate for this race in that regard. It is not just about his heavily accented English but his ability to sway the crowds with his articulate proposals as enshrined in his agenda for Makerere.These qualities are perhaps not that surprising as G.K is a one time National Debate champion.Yet,SAMBWA is not all talk,he is a man of action!He idolises India’s Founding Father, Mahtma Gandhi in as far as he is not a man who will sit on his laurels in the face of crisis,he knows how to get things done as he has made his contribution to numerous causes that opposed draconian policies in this University.
The UYD is now faced with a tough choice of whether to take SAMBWA over other UYD flag-bearer contestants,but SAMBWA makes it easier for our Delegates,he is the inevitable choice.UYD must rise above the parapet of manipulation and the politics of intimidation and seek to usher in a new era of leadership that espouses our core values of Truth and Justice. These are the values that will propel Makerere to the zenith of academic greatness,making us the envy of the region and the pride of the continent.
