Kyambogo’s Guild elections were held yesterday and here are the results as Ochieng wins

Kyambogo’s new guild President elect Ochieng Ochieng, an independent candidate emerged winner of the Kyambogo guild elections yesterday on 21st March 2017 with 4,810 votes which is 50.5% in rating.

The second runner up being FDC’s Ashaba Michael with 2,109 which was 22.1% in rating followed by NRM’s iron lady Kishemeirwe Patricia with 1,314votes which is 13.8%, Kansiime Sarah with 740 votes equivalent to 7.7%, Odong Denis 154 Votes equivalent 1.6%, Obbo Andrew with 142 Votes equivalent to 1.4% ,Opio with 133 equivalent to 1.3% and lastly Aliga Avuni rogers with 105 Votes equivalent to 1.1%.

The elections follow a botched election that was nullified on march 7th 2017 after the 80-million-shillings electronic voting machines broke down during the elections. The previous polls that had attracted eight candidates ended in chaos after students rampaged when the voting system broke down and started dismantling the equipment and property. In the raid, one laptop was dismantled and cables stolen. The university then abandoned the electronic voting system and switched back to the ticking ballot system.
